Provide legal representation and advice to city officials, employees, boards, commissions, and entities privately, publicly, orally, and in writing.
Draft, review, and negotiate ordinances, amendments, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, easements, liens, permits, licenses, rules, policies, plans, forms, and other legal instruments.
Review, interpret, and ensure compliance with federal, state, county, and City constitutions, charters, statutes, ordinances, rules, regulations, court decisions, and other legal authorities, and monitor legal developments to maintain compliance with applicable laws.
Prepare, review, and negotiate legal documents and materials, including motions, pleadings, memoranda, immunity agreements, defense claims, legal opinions, petitions, special actions, briefs, subpoenas, contractual agreements, court coverage instructions, and related matters.
Prepare and manage litigation, including docket preparation; anticipating defenses; presenting evidence; developing case strategy; drafting pleadings, briefs, motions, and related documents; trying cases; handling appeals; and appearing before federal, state, municipal courts, and administrative agencies.
Assist in the enforcement of city ordinances, codes, and city traffic regulations; participate in coordinating and facilitating related prosecution activities.
Provide legal counsel to all city departments regarding applicable codes, ordinances, statutes, and laws; attend department meetings to communicate and obtain information.
Research legal issues and prepare correspondence, memos, briefings, management reports, legal opinions, and related documents.
Attend Continuing Legal Education seminars to maintain licensure requirements to practice law.
Adhere to the City of Mt. Juliet’s Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Juris Doctor from an accredited college or university.
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee and be in good standing with the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
Must maintain Tennessee residency from the date of hire.
Attendance at various municipal meetings outside of normal business hours, including evenings.
