Description
Associate Attorney – Estate Planning & Probate
Brandt & Robbins, P.C. is a growing Johnson City law firm focused on estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate, and business matters.
We are looking for an attorney who wants more than simply a place to practice law. We are building a firm designed around excellent client service, strong systems, clear accountability, teamwork, and long-term growth—and we are looking for an attorney who wants to grow with us.
This position is being created as part of the firm’s continued expansion. The successful candidate will work closely with our Managing Partner and will gradually assume independent responsibility for client consultations, estate planning matters, probate and trust administration, document review, signings, and other substantive legal work.
Our goal is to allow attorneys to spend their time doing work that actually requires an attorney, while a strong support team handles drafting, workflow, administrative tasks, and matter progression.
What You Will Do
The Associate Attorney will be responsible for providing thoughtful, practical legal counsel while helping us deliver an exceptional client experience.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Managing estate planning matters from initial legal consultation through completion and signing.
- Reviewing estate planning documents prepared by the firm’s drafting team for legal accuracy and consistency with the client’s objectives.
- Advising executors, administrators, trustees, and beneficiaries in probate, estate administration, and trust administration matters.
- Handling probate court matters, including pleadings, hearings, and other proceedings as needed.
- Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients during significant and sometimes difficult life events.
- Identifying legal issues and developing practical solutions rather than simply identifying problems.
- Maintaining accurate and timely matter notes, deadlines, and client communications within the firm’s practice-management systems.
- Collaborating with attorneys and support staff to keep matters moving efficiently.
- Conducting estate planning consultations and advising clients regarding wills, trusts, powers of attorney, asset protection, and related planning.
What Success Looks Like
We want this attorney to become capable of independently owning significant portions of the firm’s legal production.
Over time, success in this position means that clients receive excellent legal advice and feel genuinely cared for, while their matters move forward without unnecessary delay. Drafting and support work are appropriately delegated rather than unnecessarily performed by the attorney, and all legal work is accurate, timely, and consistent with firm standards. The attorney is able to independently manage consultations and assigned matters, allowing the Managing Partner to confidently delegate increasing levels of responsibility. Ultimately, the attorney contributes meaningfully to the firm’s capacity, culture, profitability, and long-term growth.
Our Firm
Brandt & Robbins is intentionally building a law firm that does not depend upon one person to solve every problem. We believe in clear roles, strong systems, personal accountability, excellent work, continual improvement, and treating clients and coworkers exceptionally well. We are growing, investing in technology and process improvement, and building a leadership structure designed to create opportunities for talented people as the firm expands.
For the right attorney, this is an opportunity to join the firm during an important stage of growth and have a meaningful role in what comes next.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive compensation based upon experience and demonstrated ability, together with opportunities for performance-based compensation and professional growth. Benefits include paid time off, retirement benefits, health insurance, professional development, and student loan repayment assistance. Specific compensation, benefits, schedule, and other terms will be discussed with qualified candidates.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
We are more interested in finding the right attorney than checking every possible credential box.
The strongest candidate will be:
- Licensed and in good standing with the Tennessee Bar, or eligible for prompt admission in Tennessee.
- A strong legal thinker with sound judgment.
- Comfortable meeting directly with clients and explaining complicated legal concepts in understandable language.
- Warm, professional, and confident in client-facing situations.
- Careful and thorough without over-complicating matters.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple matters and deadlines.
- Comfortable working within defined systems, processes, and accountability structures.
- Coachable and interested in continued professional development.
- Willing to take ownership of outcomes rather than waiting to be told every next step.
- Collaborative and respectful toward attorneys and non-attorney team members.
- Comfortable using technology and willing to learn new systems quickly.
Experience in estate planning, probate, trusts, elder law, tax, real estate, or business law is highly desirable, but we are willing to consider an excellent attorney from another practice area who has the aptitude and desire to develop expertise in our core practice areas.
